Can Royal Challengers Bangalore still qualify for IPL 2019 playoffs?

Written by Abhishek Patil

Against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, (Royal Challengers Bangalore) slumped to their sixth straight defeat in the season, emulating Delhi Daredevils’ 2013 record of most consecutive defeats since the start of an IPL season.

With their sixth consecutive defeat in the 12th season and seventh in IPL (starting with their loss against Rajasthan Royals on May 19, 2018), the big question for RCB now stands – can they still qualify for IPL 2019 playoffs?

Usually, the IPL playoffs scenario comes into the frame when each franchise have somewhat around six or five matches to play. But with RCB languishing at the bottom of the table still pointless from their six games, the calculations seemed to have started early.

RCB still have eight games to play. A miraculous win in all the matches implies 16 points with each win giving two points. That would comfortably assure them a place in the playoffs. However, they can afford to still lose one more match in their remaining eight to chase the bleak hope given that others in the points table lose to support their cause.

Well, Delhi Daredevils, who had slumped to a six-straight defeat in IPL 2013, ended at the bottom of the table after 16 league matches. DD had managed to win only three matches in their remaining eight.

RCB return to IPL action after a gap of six days when they face Kings XI Punjab in Mohali.
