We deserve this win, says Prithvi Shaw after breathtaking win over KKR

Prithvi Shaw, on Saturday, played a scintillating knock of 99 runs off 55 deliveries to help Delhi Capitals clinch their second win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Shaw, after the match, said that rather than scoring the one run to complete his ton, he went for the big shot as he didn’t want the match to go on till the wire.

“I thought I missed the opportunity to finish the game for the team. Rather than scoring one run, I was looking to hit it big because I didn’t want the game to get this close. But the boys finished it off really well in the super over and I think we deserve this win. I spoke to my support-staff, Ricky sir, Sourav sir, Praveen sir and I figured out that I was going a little too hard early. After getting two fours in an over I was looking to do silly things,” said Shaw in the post-match presentation.

“So I changed my plan and looked to take my time and hit along the ground. I think the pitch changed a bit, the bowlers’ marks opened up and Kuldeep and Piyush were getting good turn. Batting became difficult for us because their slower ones were working quite well, but we were looking to pick the singles and doubles. I have ten more matches to come and I am hoping to continue with the same intensity in the rest of them as well and give my 100-per cent,” the DC opener added.

Batting first, KKR posted a mammoth score of 185-8 in 20 overs after some sensational hitting by Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik. However, Shaw and DC skipper Shreyas Iyer took the charge in the second innings to help the revamped DC outfit almost pull off a win in their 20-over quota.

In the Super Over, DC posted a target of 11 runs but Rabada’s fiery over was enough for the Delhi-based outfit to get their second win of the season as the hunt for their maiden IPL trophy continues.
