Former Sri Lanka player Ranjith Madurasinghe has tendered his resignation from the post of Kurunegala cricket association secratary. A fine off spinner of his time, played 3 tests and 12 ODIs for Sri Lanka, he had been involved in Cricket development in his home town Kurunegala for over four decades. Cricket Age learns that unethical cricket management at the district association forced him to resign from the post.
Here is his resignation letter :
To,
Kurunegala District Cricket Association.
Dear Hon President,
Please accept my resignation as Hony Secretary of Kurunegala District Cricket Association with immediate effect.
I accepted this post way back in 1997/98 while playing cricket as per the invitation of late Mr Gerry Perera, Mr Karunasena and many more respected seniors of the Association. During my time we were able to hold under 19 world cup and many more visiting international teams in Kurunegala while developing stadium into National standards is memorable.
I had the luxury of many distinguished personals who supported me unconditionally during this period and I am sure I lived up to their expectations.
Our dream was to make Kurunegala is a major hub of Sri Lanka Cricket and the name we all registered in internationally to be continued by producing many more National products.
I wish you will fulfill our dreams for Kurunegla since you as a past cricketer probably love to have that status in our center before you leave your office as Hon President of Kurunegala DCA.
So enough is enough and I thank everyone in Kurunegala for giving me a golden opportunity to play this global game and to be engaged with it for over 4 decades in Kurunegala is hard to match.”
Madurasinghe has been highly rated in Sri Lanka domestic circuit with his vision for the development of the game. Few weeks ago, Sri Lanka Sports Minister Harin Fernando had appointed him as the chairman of junior selection committee. Along with his fellow selectors, he can be credited to unearth future prospects like Hasitha Boyagoda, Kamindu Mendis, Jehan Daniel, Ashen Bandara.
