Bangladesh cricket team arrives in Dhaka after New Zealand mosque shooting incident

Written by Vipin Darwade

Bangladesh Cricket Team had a lucky escape during the Christchurch shooting which claimed the lives of 50 people in New Zealand. The team was on their way to the Al Noor Mosque on Deans Ave to offer their prayers before the third and final Test match against New Zealand. But their departure got delayed as the press conference finished later than expected. It proved to be extremely lucky for the cricket team as the shooting started when the bus was en route to the mosque.

The third Test match was cancelled by the New Zealand Cricket board after consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and International Cricket Council. Now the Bangladesh cricket team has arrived at Dhaka airport on late Saturday after surviving that horrific attack, according to BCB spokesman Rabeed Imam.

“The only thing I can say that we are very lucky,” skipper Mahmudllah Riyad told reporters after arrival.

“With all of your prayers, now we could return here alive. I cannot describe what is going inside us, what we have seen.”

“All of us in the team could not sleep properly. The only thing that popped up in our mind was how lucky we are.”
