Sumathipala Supporter Attacks Club Members Ahead Of SLC Election

The high profile and much awaited Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) election took an ugly turn on Sunday evening as one of the supporter of former board President Thilanga Sumathipala attacked club members, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The SLC election are scheduled for February 21.

According to sources, out of 20, the 17 club members of Kalutara District Cricket Association brought a mandate on Sunday in favour of Jayantha Dharmadasa led side in the upcoming election.

However, during the meeting, that took place at Bandaragama, a former domestic worker of Sumathipala house Manoj Sanjay Hettige deliberately attacked club members. Manoj is also a former chairman of Bandaragama Municipality, So he took advantage of his power and attacked few club members. Praneeth Peiris, one of the supporter of Dharmadasa, was  brutally assaulted.

The other members, who were presented there, tried to protect their colleagues and later they went to Bandaragama police station and lodged an entry.

According to sources, Manoj had contested in the previous SLC election from Sumathipala side but had lost.

It is noteworthy that even though Sumathipala has not submitted his nomination for the upcoming election due to fear of International Cricket Council (ICC), is going everywhere for the campaign. In last few days, he has visited Galle, Panadura and Southern zone for the SLC election campaign, even though as an immediate past President he is not eligible to involve!
