BCCI to announce IPL 2019’s schedule on Monday

Written by Rohit Pawar

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could very well announce the schedule of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday. As per a report in The Mumbai Mirror, the schedule could be announced on Monday but it will be a provisional schedule and changes can be made to it later. The main reason behind it is the fact that the Election Commission of India has not yet announced the dates of General Elections and BCCI will have to make late changes to the schedule once the dates of election is confirmed.

On past two occasions, the tournament was shifted out of India due to the same reason. In 2009, full tournament was played in South Africa while in 2014, a part of the league was played in UAE before the action returned to India.

This year as well, it could have been the case but BCCI confirmed that the tournament will be played in India only. However, the franchises will have to do away with home and away format due to elections.

The tournament is expected to end in the second week of May, at least 15 days prior to World Cup 2019 that will be played in England from May 30. Due to World Cup 2019, many international players will leave the league early.
