Former Australian cricketer and a batting legend, Steve Waugh, picked Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the best batsman of the present generation over the rest of the Fab Four – Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson. Waugh explained the reason behind picking the Indian as the modern-era best.

“I think Virat Kohli has got the best technique. If I told someone to model himself on a particular player I would say Kohli has got a perfect technique,” Waugh told ESPNCricinfo when asked to pick the best batsman of the current generation.

Kohli had top scored against South Africa with 289 runs and then buried the ghosts of 2014 to scored 593 runs in England which included two centuries at a remarkable average of 59.3. His remarkable run with the bat amid India’s failure in the two series took him atop in the ICC Test rankings with the highest-ever rating by an Indian.

Kohli is presently on a break from international cricket. He will no longer be part of the New Zealand series which also includes the three-match T20I series. He is slated to return to action in the five-match ODI series against Australia which will be preceded by a two-match T20I series.
