Even before the high profile Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) election, former President Thilanga Sumathipala’s Camp is losing the ground. Especially due to the Shammi Silva, who is contesting for the presidential post, the SLC stakeholders have lost faith in Sumathipala camp.

On January 31, Shammi Silva called for a meeting of all the affiliated clubs of Sri Lanka at Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) on the behalf of Sumathipala camp. The meeting was scheduled for 7 PM at CCC pavilion. However, by 4 PM, Sumathipala Camp had to cancel the meeting as majority of the invitees refused to participate and support them!

Shammi Silva, one of the most notorious administrator of Sumathipala camp, was treasurer in previous administration, even though he doesn’t know anything about accounting! During his tenure, plenty of financial irregularities and frauds took place. So much so that recently the International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially stated that SLC is the most corrupted cricket board in the world!

Few days ago, Shammi Silva had launched a scathing attack against the Sports Minister Harin Fernando. However, after he was bullied from every corner to wrongly accused Harin, who has emerged as the most popular Sports Minister of last one decade due to his visionary approach to bring Sri Lanka Cricket glory back, Shammi apologized the minister.

On the election front, Cricket Age learns that majority of SLC stakeholders are afraid to tarnish their names by supporting Shammi Silva! Even in Sumathipala camp, majority of people’s doesn’t like him due to his controversial, notorious past.

The SLC election are scheduled for February 21.
