Ranjith Madurusinghe To Head Sri Lanka’s 9-members Junior Selection Committee

Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) is set to announce a nine members junior selection committee to unearth the younger talent in the island, Cricket Age reliably learns. The appointment will be made for a period of one year.

The junior selection committee was mysteriously removed by the previous administration, led by former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala in 2017.

According to sources, on Wednesday, Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Harin Fernando approved New junior selection committee, another milestone in his mission to bring Sri Lanka Cricket back on track.

Here are the list of all the members of junior selection committee :

1. Ranjith Madurusinghe (Chairman)

2. Gajaba Piticola

3. Nishanthan

4. K. H. Nandsena

5. Ranjan Paranawithana

6. Dilshan De Silva

7. Gamini Wickramsinghe

8. Nilantha Rathnayake

9. Farveez Maharoof

Madurusinghe was the chairman of the previous junior selection committee as well. A former Sri Lanka player with an unmatched knowledge of grassroot cricket, Madurusinghe and his committee had unearthed young batting prodigies like Avishka Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Charith Asalanka, Shammu Ashan, Hasitha Boyagoda, Pathum Nisanka, allrounders like Kamindu Mendis, Jehan Daniel, Wanindu Hasaranga and fast bowlers like Nipun Ransika, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando during his previous tenure.

Out of all these, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis have already made their international debut, while Avishka Fernando, who had also made his high profile debut against Australia in 2016, has recently amassed more than 500 runs in just five ODI matches against touring Ireland.
