Shammi Silva Apologies to Sri Lanka Sports Minister Harin Fernando

Shammi Silva, the notorious and controversial former treasurer of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), on Saturday, unconditionally apologized to Sports Minister Harin Fernando over his offensive comments against the minister in last few days, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Last week, Shammi Silva, who doesn’t know anything about accounting but served SLC as treasurer, launched a scathing attack against Harin Fernando. In a media conference, Shammi Silva alleged Harin Fernando for focusing only on cricket.

“Harin Fernando must act as Sports Minister, not only as cricket Minister” Shammi had said in the press conference.

Furthermore, Shammi Silva, who is laughingly contesting for the vice president post in the upcoming SLC election, had stated that their team must not crucified only because they had worked with notorious Thilanga Sumathipala.

“We must not crucified only because we were with Sumathipala. We have formed a new team and are dedicated to move Sri Lanka cricket forward” Shammi Silva had said, whose previous tenure was marred by allegations against financial department for moving SLC money into shore accounts!

However, on Saturday, when Harin Fernando summoned both Jayantha Dharmadasa and Mohan De Silva camps for a meeting, Shammi Silva apologized to minister.

According to sources, during the meeting, Harin Fernando also warned Shammi Silva that he has many powers as Sports Minister, but, he is committed to bring Sri Lanka Cricket back on track and wants to focus on the development of the cricket in the island.

It is noteworthy that in a short span of time, Harin has taken many right steps to move Sri Lanka cricket forward. In his both the meetings with International Cricket Council (ICC), he succefuly managed to get Cricket’s governing body’s confidence. During the meeting with both the parties, Harin clearly mentioned that he won’t support anyone and conducting a fair SLC election is his top most priority.
