Harin Fernando, the dynamic Sports Minister, On Saturday, told both the sides who are contesting upcoming Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) election that his top most priority is to conducting the election in democratic way.

The much awaited SLC election are scheduled for February 21.

On Saturday, Harin summoned both the parties – Jayantha Dharmadasa and Mohan De Silva – for a cordial meeting. During the meeting, Mohan De Silva expressed his concern over the postponement of the election by two weeks. Mohan De Silva requested the minister to held the election on previously given date February 9 if possible. However, Harin stated that transparent and fair election is his first priority. Due to some technical adjustments and amendments, conducting the election on February 9 is not possible.

When Mohan De Silva raised his doubt that in this scenario the International Cricket Council (ICC) might suspend SLC membership, Harin revealed that he has got the backing from the governing body. Most importantly, in next few hours itself, Harin managed to convince ICC Chief executive David Richardson to held SLC election on February19.

Cricket Age learns that now the previously scheduled ICC meeting had also been postponed to March 2nd.

Meanwhile, for the meeting, Harin had summoned election committee as well. However, not a single member of the committee attended the meeting saying they had prior commitments!
