As soon as Harin Fernando took over as Sports Minister, there were campaigns against him to malign image. Last month, former Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala ran a social media campaign against Harin by digging his past things. Now, on the behalf of Sumathipala’s Camp, SLC is also doing the same. In latest attempt, the lady accountant of SLC has deliberately stopped or delayed all financial payments of the board, Cricket Age reliably learns.
According to sources, the said lady accountant was previously associated with Colombo Cricket Club (CCC), where Sumathipala’s right hand Shammi Silva is the president.
Shammi Silva, who doesn’t know anything about accounting, had mysteriously served SLC as treasurer during Sumathipala disastrous tenure. According to sources, Shammi Silva planted lady accountant at SLC and now trying to malign Sports Minister Harin Fernando’s image by stopping or delaying all financial payments.
“At the moment, there is no functioning cricket board at Maitland place and is under control of Harin Fernando and his secretary Chulananda Perera, who is looking after board’s day to day affairs as competent authority. That’s why, through account department, Shammi Silva is trying to show that Sports Ministry is incompetent in running the SLC” a SLC insider told Cricket Age.
It is noteworthy that from the beginning Sumathipala camp is openly attacking on Harin Fernando. Just few hours after Sports Ministry announced 21st February as election date, Shammi Silva, in a press conference, questioned Harin Fernando’s intention by stating that the Sports Minister is focusing only on cricket and is ignoring other sports in the country.
Shammi Silva, one of the most controversial and notorious Official of Sumathipala camp, is contesting for the vice president post in the upcoming election.
