Samantha Dodanwela resigns from SLC tournament committee

Written by N Krishnamurthy

On ethical ground which is a very rare thing in Sri Lanka cricket, Samantha Dodanwela, former ExCo member, has resigned along with other members from the SLC tournament committee after the change of the Sports Minister, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Dodanwela along with Shane Fernando, H. Parthalingam, Refai Ariff and Mahinda Halangoda were appointed into the tournament committee by the previous Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha in November. However when Harin Fernando took over as Sports Minister following reestablishment of Ranil Wickramsinghe led UNP government, he had announced that all the SLC appointments after 26 October would be termed illegal.

After that, Dodanwela and his fellow members tendered their resignations from the committee.

In November, interestingly, then Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha had appointed several other committees as well – Selection committee, Cricket advisory committee and umpires committee. However, by setting an example, Dodanwela didn’t take time to tender his resignation!
