Cheteshwar Pujara scored his 17th Test ton as he played an innings of 106 off 319 balls in the second day of the Melbourne Test on Thursday. He started the day on his overnight score of 68 and went onto add 38 more runs before being dismissed in a rather unfortunate manner. This was his seventh score of fifty-plus in a calendar year in away Tests. He also holds the record for the best conversation rate among Indian batsmen at number three position with a minimum of 10 scores of fifty plus. He has a conversion rate of 47.06% better than Rahul Dravid’s 35.90

During his knock, he also added a 170 run-stand with Indian skipper Virat Kohli who also scored a defiant 82. They looked in no trouble all through their partnership in the first session which did put India in the driver’s seat. Pujara negated Lyon all through his innings with a dead bat and also took advantage of his loose balls.

After lunch, both Kohli and Pujara were dismissed in quick succession allowing Australia to bounce back in the Test match. Australia came back with an attacking approach post lunch, accounting for the wickets of the well set Pujara and Kohli.
