Gautam Gambhir takes a dig at selectors after his retirement

Written by Rohit Pawar

Recently retired Gautam Gambhir has always known to be someone who has wore his heart on his sleeve and has never backed down from any challenge put in front of him. The left-hander has left a legacy of his own kind after becoming the highest run-getters in the two finals that’s he has played for India.

Recently, in an interview, Gambhir said that we live in a society which fears accepting the truth and mirroring it. He made these comments in the wake of the various verbal battles that he has had in his domestic career.

“It’s not only about cricketing system, in general our society doesn’t like to be shown the mirror. We like to maintain the status quo and not look at the reality. I get suffocated by all this,” Gambhir told.

Gambhir had an ugly altercation with former Delhi coach KP Bhaskar in 2017 whom he alleged of playing with the future of the young cricketers. He also had a point of difference with Chetan Chauhan over the inclusion of Navdeep Saini in the Delhi Ranji Trophy team. While Chauhan did not back Saini, Gambhir backed him to the hilt.

“It did affect me. I am human after all but then like I said, I could not have let the unfair (practices) prevail. “Look, I am not being holier than thou but some of the things that go on in our system are absolutely ridiculous. I was vocal about them and I paid the price by having an unfulfilled career” concluded Gambhir.
