Sunil Gavaskar slams Australia before test series

Written by Vishwas Gupta

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, who is against the practice of sledging on the cricket pitch, slammed Australia for often forgetting the fine line between cheating and gamesmanship. He said that the attitude of Australian players over the years has been different from other teams and often their will to win at all costs attitude backfires.

“Their attitude over the years has been most different from other teams where they look to win at all cost. There is a fine line between breaking the rule and bending the rule. And their (culture) review told the world that their administrators did nothing about it. They tend to break the fine line between cheating and gamesmanship. They tell us we will not cross the line but what their line is no one knows. It’s like our line of control (at the border),” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

His comments come days after former Australian captain Michael Clarke had urged the Tim Paine-led side to play ‘tough cricket’ the Aussie way and play for respect rather than being liked. Gavaskar explained his point by referring to the legendary West Indies team of the 90s and reckoned how they dominated world cricket while never indulging in any sort of sledging on the pitch.
