Sumathipala Starts Manipulation Again As SLC Appoints Election Committee

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Thilanga Sumathipala, the discarded former president of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) reportedly tried to manipulate the proceeding of the appointment of the election committee by asking for a proterm chairman, Cricket Age reliably learns.

On Monday, November 12, a Special General meeting of SLC stakeholders took place at Sports Ministry auditorium to appoint the election committee for the proposed election.

According to sources, Sumathipala wanted a proterm Chairman appointed to carry out the proceedings of the meeting.

However former SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga objected, by saying that as per the regulations by the sports Ministry, the Director General sports has to conduct the meeting.

It is noteworthy that in May itself, Sumathipala tried to appoint election committee without following the proper procedure. Nishantha, then, challenged the illegal appointment and dragged Sumathipala and SLC into court.
