Written by N Krishnamurthy

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised his Sri Lanka counterpart Ranil Wickramsinghe to support to clean Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) from the corruption and match fixing.

In recent months, SLC has become synonymous of controversies, corruption charges and match fixing scandals. Few months ago, an Al Jazeera documentary showed pitch fixing saga at Galle cricket Stadium followed by 11.1 attempted fraud by three SLC employees. Just few days ago, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged legendary Sanath Jayasuriya with some serious charges.

According to a report in Sinhala newspaper Lankadeepa, Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe, during his three days official visit of India, talked in length about the sad status of SLC with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After listening Wickramsinghe’s concerns, Modi has promised that India will provide full support to bring Sri Lanka Cricket back on track.

During the official visit, Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe and his delegation also met Indian Foreign Minister Shushma Swaraj, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

It is noteworthy that during the two years tenure of Thilanga Sumathipala at SLC, all these wrongdoings took place and now ICC has also taken it seriously.
