Virat Kohli Is Yet To Prove Himself As Captain, Says Viswanath

Written by Rohit Pawar

Virat Kohli as a captain is yet to match up to Virat Kohli the batsman, feels legendary Indian batsman Gundappa Viswanath. Kohli over the past few years has asserted his dominance in world cricket as one of the best batsmen across formats. However, he is yet to prove his mettle as a leader and needs to win overseas to do so. Vishwanath, a veteran of 91 Test matches for India said there are a lot more expectations from Kohli the captain.

While he continues to shatter personal records and achieve new individual milestones, Kohli is yet to prove his credentials as a captain.

“He (Kohli) is doing really well, but he is yet to prove that he’s the best. He has to win a series abroad. He has come closer, a couple of times, but still he hasn’t done yet. As a batsman, he has proved in all conditions. In the recent England tour, he showed us how good can he be. There are more expectations from Kohli the captain. He is still young as a leader. But I am confident he will reach that stage one day,” said Viswanath about the expectations from Kohli – the captain.

Team India got off to a brilliant start in the ongoing Test series against West Indies with a staggering victory by an innings and 272 runs in the first Test. The skipper will look to clinch the series 2-0 and shrug off the England horror to focus on the upcoming tour of Australia.
