The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday named the Test squad for upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies. Key pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested considering the workload. BCCI’s acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary explained the reason behind their absence after the squad was announced on Saturday.

“Taking stock of the recent workload, the selectors have decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both Ishant Sharma and Hardik Pandya were not considered for selection as they are yet to recover from their injuries,” Amitabh Choudhary, acting secretary of the BCCI explained after the team was announced.

There were a lot of doubts over Ravichandran Ashwin’s fitness before the squad announcement, the ace spinner has, however, managed to make the cut. Karun Nair after failing to play even a single match during the England Test series has also been excluded while Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant have all retained their spots in the side.
