Thilanga Sumathipala Blames Sports Minister For Sri Lanka’s Losing Streak

Written by N Krishnamurthy

A desperate Thilanga Sumathipala along with a completely forgotten former Sports Minister SB Dissanayake launched a scathing attack against the current Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha on Thursday by putting all the blame on him for the national team’s losing streak in recent months.

Sumathipala led administration had to leave the SLC on May 31st due to failing to hold the election on time. Since then, Faizer Mustapha appointed Competent Authority Kamal Padmasiri is running the show at SLC.

Now, as Sumathipala is finding himself at crossroads, he is trying every trick to make a comeback at SLC. Yesterday, with former Sports Minister SB Dissanayake, he blamed Faizer Mustapha for almost everything.

“Faizer is delaying the election of the SLC and it has caused uncertainty. his competent authority doesn’t know anything about cricket and Sri Lanka Cricket is suffering big time due to not having the elected body” Sumathipala told reporters during a press conference yesterday.

Even though Sri Lanka have lost only a handful of matches since Sumathipala’s departure, he tried to show that his absence is the main reason for Sri Lanka cricket downfall.

“There is no one to take the responsibility of the faliure of the team. This is due to the non-availability of the board and thus total responsibility of the failures is with Faizer” he added further, by completely ignoring the fact that Sri Lanka hopelessly lost three ODI series 5-0 in 2017, when he was the president of the SLC.

SB Dissanayake, who was actively involved in Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar’s manager TV deal few years ago, also put all the blame on Faizer.

“Faizer is purposely delaying the elections and as a result Sri Lanka team is suffering big time” he said during the press conference.
