Sports Minister Calls For Inquiry Over Sri Lanka Poor Asia Cup Show

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha has called for an inquiry after Sri Lanka’s embarrassing defeats in the ongoing Asia Cup, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Placed in the rather easy group with Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Sri Lanka hit a new low, as we’re comprehensively lost matches against both the sides. Hopelessly captained by Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka were whipped by Bangladesh in the opening game of the Asia Cup and had to beat Afghanistan by a long way to keep their prospects alive. Instead, they could do no better than allow Afghanistan to score 249 and then implode in style.

“Honorable Sports Minister is fumed with the pathetic performance of the team. It’s unacceptable. He has immediately instructed SLC for an inquiry” a top official of Sports Ministry told Cricket Age.

It was first time in Sri Lanka cricket history that Sri Lanka knocked out from the tournament without playing India or Pakistan.

The defeats are that much embarrassing that Sri Lanka team management have decided to skip the media upon their arrival to Colombo. As they returned in midnight today, SLC initially called for a press conference. However, late night yesterday, on the instructions of Top officials, SLC Media division emailed media organisations informing them of postponement of the press briefing.

“After embarrassing show in both the matches, captain and coach were not too keen to face the barrage of questions from the media” a top SLC Official told Cricket Age.
