After the eventful departure of Thilanga Sumathipala led administration from the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) on May 31st due to failing to hold the election on time, national team head coach Chandika Hathurasingha has taken over all the cricket related affairs from an ‘incompetent’ CEO Ashley De Silva. Now Hathurasingha has been actively involved not only in team selection, but also in deciding in which airlines players will travel.

In his latest dominant act, Hathurusingha reportedly cut down SLC’s ongoing t20 league to four team tournament, even after it was planned as a five team affair originally, Cricket Age reliably learns.

“Yes, The ongoing T20 league was supposed to be a five team tournament originally. however, at the last moment, SLC cut down it to four teams tournament” a top SLC Official told Cricket Age.

According to sources, Hathurusingha insisted that with five team tournament his national players will have to play more matches so will get tired before the upcoming Asia Cup.

However, on the influence of Hathurusingha, SLC’s decision to cut ongoing t20 league to a four team tournament deprived at least 15 youngsters to play with national players. Also, those young players were deprived to showcase their talent and push selectors to consider them for the Asia Cup. After all, the only motive behind ongoing t20 league is to pick a squad for the next month Asia Cup.

Also, this incident once again proves how Hathurusingha is manipulating things at weakened SLC.
