Written by Pushpendra Albe

A day after Mahela Jayawardene refused Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and Sports Minister proposal  to join the board as Consultant, Legendary bowler Muttiah Muralitharan, on Friday, has also expressed the same sentiments.

“I appreciate the invitation which firstly reached me via the media and then officially confirmed by the CEO as per the conversation we had after which he emailed the letter of
confirmation.

I am of the view that it is an insincere, cunning move, more to
use us when the Cricket administration is in such a deplorable state and standby the sentiments that Mahela has expressed, not able to trust the system as per his own experience of
attempting to resolve pressing issues which was never
implemented.

It is sad that National cricketers are not consulted until it hits
the rock bottom!

I would not hesitate to give of my time if I do realise the
genuineness and credibility of the administration despite my
own professional coaching engagements world wide” Murali Said in his media statement.

On June 13, SLC CEO Ashley De Silva and Sports Minister Made a public appeal to Country’s finest cricketers – Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Aravinda De Silva, Roshan Mahanama and Muttiah Muralitharan – To Join a consultant Committee.

The Idea was to put all of them into a committee on consultancy basis to get their advice on Cricket related matters.

However, only few hours later, Mahela Jayawardene not only refused the idea, he also Completely exposed SLC’ motive behind this.

“With all due respect to the selectors & the sports minister i have spent 1 year in the cricket committee & 6 months in a special advisory committee & no recomendations were implimented. I dont have any trust in the system. If any one wants to buy time please dont use us!” Mahela wrote on his twitter handle.
