Sumathipala Future Hangs On Thread, Dayasiri Likely to be Replaced After ‘No Confidence’ Saga

Written by Pushpendra Albe

As the grand Political Drama of Sri Lanka has come to an end on Wednesday, Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, in the newly emerged scenario, Will most likely to be replaced While the future of Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Thilanga Sumathipala has also become uncertain, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Dayasiri, a SLFP Parliamentarian, was the main architect behind the No Confidence Saga against the country’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe. Right from the Rajapakshe party’s grand victory in the local elections in February, Dayasiri was trying to topple Wickramsinghe, and was making strategies to accomplish his mission as the most loyal associate of Country’s President Sirisena Maithripala.

According to sources, Dayasiri’s close friend Thilanga Sumathipala, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), also supported him unconditionally.

However, as PM Wickramsinghe survived the No Confidence on Wednesday, it has become clear that the Dayasiri will most probably will be replaced as Sports Minister, as after emerging winner in the Saga, there will be all UNP government.

Though, as the day progressed and it appeared that PM Wickramsinghe would easily survive the Crisis, Dayasiri dramatically (and unethically) changed his stance and announced that even though he would vote against PM and has No Confidence in him, he would remain in the government, until the next order from the President Maithripala.

However, it’s not only unlikely, but is unethical also!

“Look, he was the main contributer of the No Confidence Saga. Right after Local elections, he was trying to topple Wickramsinghe. He even Voted against him in the no Confidence. So, if he has no confidence in the prime minister, how and why he can be remained in his government” a political analyst, who was at parliament entire day, told Cricket Age.

“He was in Australia. Rushed back to Colombo on Tuesday night and was making strategies entire day against PM Wickramsinghe. So, how he can be remained as sports minister. It’s a laughable thing itself, that he still wants to be the minister. If there is a thing of dignity, he must resign himself at the soonest” the political analyst told further.

Sumathipala Situation is also nothing short of disaster. He completely believed in Dayasiri and blindly followed and supported him. As a President of SLC, this is not a hidden thing that he enjoyed more than hundred percent backing from the Dayasiri over the years, despite all sort of mismanagement and corruption charges within the board.

“It is very likely that Sumathipala will be replaced as the deputy speaker of the parliament. Also, as the president of SLC also, his days seems numbered Now and very soon Sri Lanka Cricket will get a new administration” the analyst added further.
