Old Age ‘Coaching Staff’ Causing Sri Lanka Women’s Team Debacle

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has been mysteriously spending lavishly only on the So called Talent Scout program and no focus on upgrading the Coaching Staff, which is the main cause of Sri Lanka Women’s Team Continues Debacle.

After being comprehensively defeated in the ODI series 3-0 against Pakistan, Sri Lanka Women’s team has already lost first T20I as well. The defeats have been so much humiliating, that SLC scrapped live telecast of the matches, midway through the series to avoid embarrassment and humiliation from the fans.

However, SLC is still in no mood to diagnose the real reason of the continues debacle. Since last one and half year, Sri Lanka Women’s team has been dreadfully performing. They knocked out in the first round of the world cup. In September last year, even a development team lost badly against Thailand.

The main reason is that Sri Lanka Women’s team still depends on old coaching methods. Hemantha Devapriya, the head coach, is almost 65 year old. Oshadee Weerasinghe, the spin and Assistant Coach is around 57 year old. Ever since they have been appointed, Sri Lanka Women’s team is going towards bottom.

“The Coaches are old and believes in Copy Book coaching methods. In this scenario, how can they prepare players to compete with modern day teams and players” a Source at SLC told Cricket Age.

Mysteriously, With the unconditional backing of SLC vice president K Mathivanan, Sri Lanka Women’s team getting everything on the platter : facilities, allowances for the Team Officials and regular series against top playing nation. However, the glory days have disappeared!

“When some Team Officials travels in business class and players travels in economy class, then you can imagine where SLC priorities are” the source revealed further.

After the Pakistan series, Sri Lanka Women’s team to play against India and Captain Mithali Raj has already announced that they want to whitewash neighbors. With useless coaching staff and team officials, this seems most obvious outcome for Sri Lanka Women’s team!
