After being the top scorer of test series, Virat Kohli as he went on to notch up three centuries and a fifty in the six-match ODI series to steer India to a historic bilateral series win over the Proteas side as he once again ended as the top scorer. And now with the T20I series ahead of him, Kohli nears another major milestone. Standing just 44 runs short, the Indian skipper will become the first Indian batsman to breach the 2000-run mark in T20I format if he manages to carve another masterful innings at the Wanderers in the first match on Sunday. he will be the first Indian batsman to breach the milestone and third overall after New Zealand opener Martin Guptill (2188 runs) and his former teammate Brendon McCullum (2140 runs).

Adding to it, Kohli notched up 286 runs in the Test series and 558 runs in the ODIs, which sums up to 844 runs. Thus, Kohli is 156 runs short of completing 1000 runs on this Tour of South Africa and has three opportunities in hand. The only other batsman who had set the mark was Windies legend Sir Vivian Richards (1045 runs) when his side had toured England in the year 1976.

Kohli needs to score 156 runs in the 3-match T20I series to complete 1000 runs on this South Africa tour.
