Ashley De Silva, the incompetent CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket Board, proved again and again that he doesn’t deserves to be there. As a high profile CEO of a Clueless Cricket Board, he has many feathers to his hat. Recently, he was involved in a Case, where a former employee of SLC, has filed a case against him for the unethical sacking.
Forget this, yesterday he achieved a new height of madness. Entire Sri Lanka was ready to welcome their new shorter formats captain Thisara Perera. Though, he became the seventh Captain of Sri Lanka in 2017 which is a new Record for any Cricket playing nation, Sri Lanka Cricket fans were still optimistic and excited. Reason, with his aggressive brand of Cricket, Thisara brings excitement with his game!
However, Ashley had other plans. He brought embarrassment for Sri Lanka, instead of excitement!
During a press conference, where entire Sri Lanka was hoping for a new beginning with the appointment of Thisara Perera, he came with this unique quote :
“Sri Lanka Cricket will appoint captain’s on tour by tour basis” said Ashley De Silva.
You can term this one as the ‘Joke of the year’, however it reflected how badly SLC has lost its creditability, with these kind of Officials running the show!
Thisara Perera could be an asset for Sri Lanka, if he plays with his full potential. If he can justify his talent, he could be the biggest match winner for Sri Lanka, simply because he has that ‘Impact’ thing in his game. Though, for years he struggled for consistency, his recent form shows he has become a mature player now. As Chandika Hathurusingha to join him as the National Coach, Sri Lanka can still for a resurgence.
However, Ashley, at least yesterday, stole all the headlines and limelight from newly appointed Captain. Overnight, Ashley became the biggest entertainer of the World Cricket. No other Board official has had ever welcomed a new Captain with this sort of comments.
That’s why, question arises : does Ashley De Silva deserves to be the CEO of SLC?
