Chandimal disappointed over Angelo Mathews Poor batting Form

A horrendous batting display by the visitors saw India thrash Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the second Test at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The visitors fell like a pack of cards in the first session on Day 4, losing 7 wickets in no time.

After the heaviest defeat against India, in terms of runs, Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal expressed his concern over The poor batting form of his senior most player Angelo Mathews.

“Angelo is the most senior guy in the line-up & if he is not scoring, our team goes down. As senior players, you need to stand up and perform so the youngsters can follow. I’m sure he will stand up and make it count again” Chandimal said on Angelo Mathews after the match.

Mathews, Sri Lanka’s premier batsman in longer formats, has been a rather disappointing series so far. Though he made a composed 52 in the first innings of Kolkata test but couldn’t contribute much after that. After making only 12 runs in the second innings of the first test, he followed with an identical scores of 10 in the two innings of Nagpur test.
