Karunarate achieves a rare feat for Sri Lanka in Nagpur Test

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka left-handed Opener Dimuth Karunaratne achieved a rare feat in Nagpur Test, as he completed 1000 runs in 2017. During his gritty knock of 51 runs in the first day of second test against India at Nagpur, Karunaratne achieved the milestone, when he was on 12.

South Africa Dean Elgar is the only other player, who has made more runs than him in this year.

By doing so, Karunaratne joined Former Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya, as he became only the second Sri Lanka opener to make 1000 runs in a single calender year. Legendary Jayasuriya achieved the milestone twice in his career : in 1997 and 2004.

Karunaratne, a technically sound batsman, has been a revelation this year, having made three hundreds for Sri Lanka in the year so far.
