Dasun Shanaka fined for changing the condition of the ball

Written by Rohit Pawar

Sri Lanka fast bowling allrounder Dasun Shanaka has been 75 percent of his match fees for breaching level 2 of the ICC code of Conduct during the second day’s play in the Nagpur test against India on Saturday.

After the day’s play, Shanaka admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Boon.

In the 50th over of India’s first innings, Shanaka was seen on television picking at an area on the ball next to the seam and ball appeared as if it had been scraped at.

Joel Wilson and Richard Kettleborough, the on-field umpires, Nigel Llong, the third umpire and C Shamshuddin, the fourth umpire, pulled him up for it after day’s play and charges were laid.

“these are early days in Shanaka’s career and I am sure this sanction will insure he is more careful when maintaining the condition of the ball in future” said Boon.
