Written by Rohit Pawar

Under Virat Kohli’s Captaincy, India have won 8 Consecutive test series wins. Under his Ultra-Aggressive leadership, India has gained the reputation of a fearless team!

However, on the first day of the opening test of the series against Sri Lanka, Team India tested their own medicine. As Indian batsmen found themselves in the centre of the Iconic Eden Garden, it was Dinesh Chandimal, who impressed one and all with his aggressive captaincy.

Known to be a spinner’s paradise, Eden Garden pitch is world famous for producing outright results in test cricket. Traditionally, Captain always chooses to bat first after winning the toss here, assuming that pitch crumbles and the match progresses.

However, Chandimal took a brave decision to bowl first, in order to get the best use of gloomy Conditions. By doing so, he became the first Captain in last 30 years to opted to bowl at Eden Garden.

On gloomy and overcast conditions, Sri Lanka new ball bowlers, particularly Suranga Lakmal, were threatening from the word go, So Chandimal provided them the field, they wanted.

Lakmal stunned team India with figures of 6-6-0-3, and rattled world’s best batting line up with prized scalps of KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. During most memorable bowling spell of his career, Chandimal gave him Four Slips and a Gully! Against Indian batting, that too in their home soil, these were rare scenes.
