Bangladesh to probe South Africa drubbing

Written by Vipin Darwade

Bangladesh’s cricket board said on Tuesday it would launch an investigation into its humiliating drubbing against South Africa, where Bangladesh lost every match in all three formats, with David Miller smashing the fastest century in Twenty20 history off just 35 balls from the hapless visitors.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said the players, managers and coaching staff would be questioned over the woeful showing. Bangladesh played nine internationals – 2 Tests, 5 ODIs, 2 T20Is – on South Africa tour and lost all of them.

“The overall performance was very bad. Of course, we have some questions,” Hasan told.

“We have to know if there were other problems. We all know Bangladesh can lose games, but we cannot accept the way they lost them” he added.

Earlier, Star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan too believes that it was majorly because the team could not do well in Tests. Eventually, as the losses continued to pile on, a negativity was created in the camp and players began to lose confidence.

“I think a big reason [for the performance] was that we didn’t do well in Tests, and when the ODIs came around that mood lingered into that format,” Shakib said.

“Similarly, when we did not do well in the ODIs, it lingered into the T20s. It’s like a virus. If we did well in Tests, then we could have done even better in ODIs, and even better thereafter in the T20s” he added.
