Sumathipala takes decision at meeting, sans quorum

Written by Rohit Pawar

SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala took many decisions recently during a Management Committee Meeting, but surprisingly only three members were present there : Sumathipala himself, Vice President  K. Mathivanan and Assistant Treasurer Rambukwella.

The rest are on Dubai Safari, namely Secretary Mohan de Silva, Asst Secretary Ravin Wickremaratna and Treasurer Shammi Silva.

As most of the ExCo members are in UAE, The senior Vice President position, vacant by Jayantha Dharmadasa, still to be filled.

However Ravin Wickremaratna’s wife uses SLC vehicle and misusing SLC assets and funds.

In another episode Sumathipala has threatened the players who have said no to Lahore and appointed Thisara Perera at the captain for the T/20 National team to fullfill his ego.

Sumathipala has also vowed that he will accompany the team along with Asanka Gurusingha and Hashan Tilllakaratna, since all foreigners have refused to go to Lahore.

It has learnt that sumathipala has also stated that no action will be taken against the foreign coaches and support staff but aims to take action against the players.

With all these mess up,  Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara needs to take responsibility for not appointing an Interim body to run the affairs of the Board, thereby delaying the process that is now inevitable and also responsible for the ruination of Sri Lanka’s cricket.

Obviously, It is time for the President and Prime Minister of the country to intervene and set things right.

Currently, all these decisions are placed before the Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera for his final approval in consultation with Sumathipala  and Mohan De Silva. All this is because the head of an important sport is managed by a politician and they are cabinet buddies. due to that the game of cricket and other sports suffer very badly.

It is time for Thilanga to be moved out and Sri Lanka cricket be saved, if not it will sink deeper and deeper with already the funds been siphoned out due to unwanted purchases of ground material and infrastructure plus the lavish spending.
