Sourav Ganguly backs New ICC Rule Of Sending Off Players

Written by Vipin Darwade

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday welcomed the new ICC rule, which will allow the umpire to send off a player for the rest of the match for any serious misconduct.

The new rule states, “Threatening to assault an umpire, making inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with an umpire, physically assaulting a player or any other person and committing any other act of violence all constitute Level 4 offences.”

“It was introduced by the MCC and there are reasons for that. Lot of difficult situations occurred in low-level cricket outside India — particularly in England or in South Africa. It is a good thing,” Ganguly said.

The ICC’s revamped rules will come into effect from today.
