Written by Toshi Pawar

Before the Independence Cup, Thisara Perera’s career was going nowhere!

With recall after recall, and sporadic performances in given chances, a permanent place in the Sri Lanka team had been become a distance dream for him, even in the t20 format.

Though, he played against India here and there, after being recalled once again, but he was no where near his good form, with both bat and ball.

But, now, Independence Cup has, once again, given a new dimension to his career. By distance, he was the best player of the World XI team, that comprised some of the finest t20 cricketers in the world!
In all three matches, only Perera looked like a player, who could have won the match for star studded World XI.

He was the 4th highest runs scorer of the series with 96 runs in 3 matches off just 43 balls. His runs were came with the highest strike rate of the series, 223.26 to be precise, and also became the highest wicket taker of the tournament by a distance with 6 wickets. Not surprisingly, He Smashed most number of sixes (8) in the tournament as well.

Obviously, The tour did wonders for Perera. After a long time, he looked like a Old Thisara Perera, who was enjoying the moment. He enjoyed his game on the field, enjoyed his moments off the field too. As success came to his on field, he even took a Rickshaw ride with his teammates. A happy and confident Perera even posted a heart touching message prior to his departure.

“All the love and support that I got from the amazing people in Pakistan 🇵🇰 reminded me that I’m so blessed .It felt amazing ❤️ Thank you” posted an overwhelming Perera on his twitter handle.

Pakistani supporters too liked Perera brutal hitting on the ground, and gesture off the field, with open arms.

These could be great sign for Sri Lanka cricket. Going through the worst phase of its history, Sri Lanka cricket badly need a resurgent Thisara Perera, with consistency!
