The proposed meeting of Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara with former Sri Lanka players, administrators on 15th September is nothing more than a show up formality, Cricket Age has reliably learnt. Even before the meeting Sumathipala has chalked down his plan and submitted to the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports in order to review the country’s cricket and thereby to remain as SLC President, by hook or crook till At least March 2018.

Sources revealed that the proposed Independence Cup is the prime reason, why Sumathipala is secretly planning to prolong the SLC election dates after March 2018.

The four nation tournament – involving Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and South Africa – is expected to be played from 15 to 30 March 2018, to celebrate 70 Years of Sri Lanka Independence.

Sources revealed that the proposed Independence Cup presents an opportunity for Thilanga and his henchmen to cash in big time, and that’s the main reason, why Sumathipala is secretly planning to prolong the SLC election dates after March 2018.

The Independence Cup is the brainchild of Sumathipala. As, World Cricket’s powerhouse India is also involved in the tournament, it is a good opportunity for SLC to cash in.

With India also playing, the TV rights of the Independence Cup will be nothing less than a World Cup deal, plus sale of cooperate boxes and tickets to the public. The tickets will find its way to the black market at very high rates.

That is the main reason, in the insist of his close aide Sumathipala, Dayasiri has called for a meeting with former players and administrators on 15th September to pull wool over their eyes, whilst doing the reverse. It will also portray to the public that the Stake holder Clubs and former players are back to support him in his endeavours of mischief.

Cricket Age has learnt that in the meeting, Dayasiri may falsely say that he is contemplating to conduct the elections in December 2017, to mislead the stake holders and Cricket loving nation.
