Past SL players, coaches and administrators to assist in reviving the School Programs

As Sri Lanka Cricket Board is on self destructive mode, under the administration of President Thilanga Sumathipala, the former legends of the game have come forward to revive the school cricket of the country, with the help of some of the best available strategist.

In the first step, today, former Cricketer Sidath Wettimuny, Mahela Jayawardene, Roshan Mahanama, Roger Wijesuriya, Thilina Kandambi, Jayantha Seneviratne, carlton bernardus and representatives from Schools cricket met with Minster Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to discuss improvements to be done to School cricket.

In the proposed plan, It will restructure all tournaments to cater to the modern day needs, and will also help to improve, coaching, infrastructure, provide cricket materials to all needy schools. Also it will introduce a Provincial structure at community level to reach out to all schools. The players will benifit ememsely since all past National players and past cricket administrators are focused on bring about the required change to ensure that schools cricket thrive.

In the proposal, there are also plans to educate the players on the physical aspects and nutrition and introduce a Code of Conduct (COC) for all schools. It will ensure that’s Tournament structure will be done to ensure quality cricket is played rather than quantity cricket that would bring about the change.

This project has also obtained the Prime Ministers blessings and very soon a budget will be approved through the cabinet.

All members involved are totally committed to see that the coaching in schools improve immensely and in time the Minister of Education will build training centers in each Province so that all school players will be able to horn their skills.

Mahela was also exited with this particular aspect, as he shared his willingness on his twitter handle as well.

“It was a very good meeting and I hope I can help develop school cricket and bring a transparent structure to improve our grassroot” wrote Mahela after the meeting.
