Is Virat Kohli baised in team selection?

Written by Pushpendra Albe

Even though he was the most successful captain India has ever produced, but there were plenty of allegations on MS Dhoni for liking and disliking towards
certain player. Entire country knows, what happened with players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh under Dhoni captaincy. On the other hand, players like Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Suresh Raina got maximum chances, when he was the captain.

Though, no one can deny the quality of these players, but even then there were whispers that it was like Team CSK, instead of team India. Dhoni was also the captain of IPL team Chennai Super Kings, and all these players were playing for the same team, again under his captaincy.

Now, the history is repeating itself, it seems. This time, the same players – Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and R. Ashwin are at the receiving end!

Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, though Jadeja and Ashwin are still an integral part of India’s Test team, but they have been sidelined in shorter formats. Suresh Raina, meanwhile, has thoroughly been discarded.

More surprisingly, now the players from the RCB, where Virat Kohli is captain, are getting more chances than other Indian players of the same league.

Four Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players – Virat Kohli, Yuvzendra Chahal, KL Rahul and Kedar Jadhav – are now part of the Indian limited-overs cricket set up.

Obviously, Some fans are disappointed with this trend, and the exclusion of veteran stars Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, linked a new term for the selection policy – ‘RCB quota’.

Fans felt that players part of the Bangalore franchise held a slight edge of others because Kohli called the shots. They also drew comparisons with MS Dhoni’s tenure when the Indian side had a strong Chennai Super Kings influence.

No doubt, that in Virat Kohli leadership, team India achieved new heights. But, if there is any truth in these allegations, it’s certainly not good signs for Team India!
