Mahela takes a dig on Sanath Jayasuriya after Akila heroics

Written by Rohit Pawar

As Akila Dananjaya, the charismatic off spinner of Sri Lanka, rattled Indian batting line up in the second match of the ODI series yesterday, former captain Mahela Jayawardene questioned Sanath Jayasuriya consistency as a selector.

“Hope we give Akila a good run in the team.. what ever his performance reflect. Last game he played took 4 against Zim and then got dropped” he wrote on his twitter handle.

“Not taking Akila as a example.. this has happened to too many players in the last 12 months. Let’s learn from mistakes and move on” he added further.

During Jayasuriya tenure as a Chief selector, as many as 40 players have played for Sri Lanka in two years. More than this, total of 28 players ( 8 test caps, 13 ODI caps and 7 T20 caps) have received national cap.

Not impressed by these experiments of changing and choping players, Mahela said that the best way is to stick with the players.

“We have to back our players and have faith in them. No other instant solution. Not blaming any one just sounding my thoughts” he concluded.
