Written by Rohit Pawar

SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala surprisingly took a U turn and decided to facilitate clubs, with payments, after several reports in different print and electronic media reports on the issue.

Previously, they used to facilitate District & Provincial Association Teams. But, after media scrutiny, both from the Sri Lanka and international media, President Sumathipala took a U turn, during a Management meeting on Sunday, after the series loss against India.

Also leading cricket personalities both present and passed had expressed deep concern. However over a period of time K. Mathivanan had tried to influence the President but was not successful.

On the last voice cut given by the last Interim Chairman Sidath Wettimuny, Sumathipala is now of the opinion that Clubs need to be facilitated and players at domestic level given their right dues. The Clubs will be called in on 10th August to receive such payment in the Marque that was erected at s cost of 70 million for the 2nd Test at SSC. The Representatives of Clubs will be fortunate to be felicitated in the 70 million Marque.
