Dinesh Chandimal to be Sri Lanka new test captain

Written by Rohit Pawar

Discarded middle order batsman Dinesh Chandimal will be Sri Lanka new test captain. As Angelo Mathews stepped down, following a ambracing defeat against Zimbabwe in the ODI series, selectors have decided to appoint Chandimal as his successor. Upul Tharanga will be the captain of the ODI and t20 sides.

Though, Chandimal’s own form has largely been patchy this year across all formats. After a poor Champions trophy with the bat, selectors had dropped him for just concluded ODI series. But, now after the sudden departure of Mathews, selectors had no option, other than to appoint him as the captain.

Tharanga, on the other hand, has had a reasonable success as a captain, as he won a triangular series in Zimbabwe and a t20 series in Australia in past one year.

Sri Lanka will next host to India, for three test, five ODI and t20 series, starting from 26th July.

The formal announcement has made today at 10 AM,  in a press conference at SLC headquarter in Colombo.
