Why Kohli failed against England?

Written by Pushpendra Albe

In modern era, Virat Kohli is synonymous with phrases like “the run machine”, “the king of all three formats”. he averages 50 in tests and 53 in other two- ODI’s and twenty-20.

But, sometimes, even kohli finds it difficult to make runs! as it happened in just concluded twenty-20 series against England. After 2014, it was the first time, when kohli failed to make a half century in a series. Though,  he ran himself out in the third match, but, even in other two, he was clearly struggling. His scores in the series were 29, 21 and 2, with a below par average of 17.33.

So what is the reason? it was his first series as a full time captain of India.  So, is it the burden of captaincy, that hindered his natural game? Cricket analyst Ayaz Memon doesn’t think so. ” I think there is another reason for his faliours. In his twenty-career so far, he always bat at no.   3 or 4. and whenever he opened, as for his IPL team Royal Challengers, he bats with dynamic batsmen like Chris Gayle. So there were no scoreboard pressure. but, in this series, as rohit sharma was not there due to injury, it was upto kohli to give his team a flying start in first six overs. he perished every time, trying to do so.”

and it seems true. Though he is the greatest batsman in modern cricket, Kohli is not a big hitter. He can’t  hit sixes from the first ball itself. He takes his time and then exlerate, and this is his natural game.

So, it’s just a rare incident, when king Kohli failed. he will bounce back and with bang. right now, it is the time for him to enjoy his historical success as a captain, as his team dismantled mighty England in all three formats.
