Babar Azam enjoying the saviour role for pakistan

Written by Pushpendra Albe

In coming years, cricket writers across the globe, Will have to create new farse to applause one of the best young crickter from Pakistan. Babar Azam, a dashing right-handed top order batsman has been mesmerizing cricket fans and his consitancy, reminds of some of the modern greats of the game.

His statistics are simply astonishing, particularly in ODI format. After 23 matches, he averages 53 with 1168 runs to his name, including 4 centuries and 6 half centuries.

Now, compare this with another greats of modern era. virat Kohli had 947 runs with an average of 49.84, with 2 hundreds after his 23 matches. Kane Williamson had 657 runs (average 36), Steven Smith had 399 runs (average 21) and Joe Root only had 723 runs with an average of 36, after the same number of matches.

So, it is clear, azam is way too ahead. And it’s not about statistics only. Right from the start of his career,  when he clobbered three consecutive hundreds against West Indies, he has been making runs, when Pakistan needed most. Aged 22, only after handful of matches, he has become the back bone of Pakistani batting.

And, just like his senior greats-Kohli, Root, Williamson and Smith, he is a complete player. He seems rock solid against fast bowlers and plays the spinners with utmost comfort. Most importantly, he seems a player, who knows his game well.

Though it’s just the beginning of his career. In coming years, all teams and bowlers will read his game, his weaknesses.

But, right now, he seems a player with extraordinary talent.
