Dasun Shanaka could be Sri Lanka’s Hardik Pandya, but selectors have forgotten him

If Dasun Shanaka, cleanest striker in Sri Lanka currently with amazing six hitting abilities, can’t find a place in the team, especially when Angelo Mathews is playing purely as a batsman, Thisara Perera failing again and again, and Asela Gunaratne has been images (2)out of team with broken hand, than its clear that selectors have completely forgotten him.

As the three match test series between India and Sri Lanka is in last leg, focus has been shifted towards the upcoming ODI series. And it seems, Sri Lanka selectors again decided to leave Dasun Shanaka into wilderness!

The five match series will be kicked off on 20th August. To start preparing for the series, Sri Lanka have recalled allrounder Thisara Perera from the England, where he had been playing in the Natwest T20 Blast.

Just like Perera, Dasun Shanaka too is in overseas. Currently he is playing in Singapore T20 tournament, for his team SSC. the dashing allrounder is in top form as well, as he blasted 47 in just 23 deliveries yesterday, on his way to marshal his team into semifinal.

Though, it seems selectors have completely forgotten him, otherwise they could have recalled him as well, just like Perera.

A middle order batsman and seam bowler, Shanaka had made immediate effect, in all three formats in 2016. He rattled Indian and English batting line ups in his debut T20 and test match respectively, before dismentle Ireland with his six-laden forty plus score in just his second ODI. At that time, he was all set to emulate Angelo Mathews, with both bat and ball. But, after few failures, even on those occasions he ran out few times unfortunately, selectors just dumped him, for reasons best known to them only.

A hard hitting batsman, who can hit sixes afortlessly, and a seam bowler, who can destroy any batting line, on true pitches, Shanaka could be a asset to Sri Lanka team. Many in the Sri Lanka cricket rates him highly, and believes he could be the as effective for his country in all three formats, as Hardik Pandya is for India. Many also felt, he could have been a timely pick for the greenish Pallekele pitch for the test team for the ongoing third test. A batsman with rock solid defence and shots all over the ground, Shanaka is an complete package. More than this, he is a truly ‘impact player’ just like Kusal Perera, who can win the match on his own.

But, it seems Sanath Jayasuriya and his fellow selectors have some other plans!
